There is more to see and do in Auckland than jumping off things and drinking wine. So, to make this post a nice little “Top 5” list, here are 2 extra things to do in Auckland:
Auckland Art Gallery
I would recommend a stop by the Auckland art gallery while in the city. This isn’t the artist in me talking trying to get you into art. I genuinely think it was a good cultural experience. They showcase contemporary New Zealand artists as well as historical New Zealand paintings. My favourite were the portraits. Amazing collection. The best part of all this is that it’s free admission. While I’m so used to $10-20 admission price for major galleries, the Auckland Art Gallery doesn’t change an entrance fee. Of course, there is a donation container in the lobby and I’d suggest a couple bucks thrown in there if you can spare it.
Being on the ocean, of course there is a great harbour in the city. It’s lined with various restaurants like most harbours are. There is also a Maritime Museum that I personally didn’t go into. I was more interested in just enjoying the scenery. Sitting by the water and drinking a coffee while looking over the city is incredibly relaxing to me. So, I’d say even if you do go to the museum or stop at any of the restaurants, just go for a little stroll along the water one afternoon and enjoy the view.
Those were my top 5 things to do in Auckland. Have you been to Auckland? What are you’re favourite things to do in Auckland?
